Universal Vows

I grew up surrounded by all kinds of couples and families-from my gay dad and his partners and friends to my single mom, my brother's interfaith marriage, and my sister's interracial marriage. I witnessed many different expressions of love, commitment, and family, and I saw how strong, wonderful relationships can endure through life's challenges. Those experiences taught me that everyone deserves to be celebrated with a ceremony that reflects their unique beliefs, values, and bond.

My education and ordination reflect these deeply held beliefs. I hold degrees in literature and ancient languages, allowing me to read Judeo-Christian sacred texts in their original languages. I can also read texts in Russian and Spanish, although I am not fluent in either language.

I do not belong to any specific religious tradition, although I do follow the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Since childhood, I have believed that every person finds their own path to the Divine. Most importantly, I believe that everyone is free to believe-or not believe-as they choose, and that true care and respect for one's neighbor means allowing others to follow their own moral and spiritual journey.

I have been blissfully married to my terrific husband since 1987, and together we have raised two children, of whom we are immensely proud. We also share our home with two dogs and a snake.
